Spondylosis refers to age-related wear and tear of the spinal discs and joints, commonly seen in the neck and lower back.
Process
Spondylosis is a degenerative process of the spine that occurs mainly due to aging and continuous wear and tear. Over time, the intervertebral discs lose water content and elasticity, causing them to shrink and reduce the cushioning between vertebrae. In response, the body forms bone spurs (osteophytes) to stabilize the spine, which can narrow the spaces where nerves exit. These changes lead to stiffness, reduced flexibility, and sometimes nerve compression, resulting in pain, numbness, or weakness.
